About Oil City Press Ltd.
Back in 1953, a father and son had a dream... build a printing company on solid values, quality and personal service.
Ron Kletke Sr. and his son, Ron Jr., both worked in the Winnipeg printing trade. Ron Sr. had over 20 years of experience as a compositor, and Ron Jr. had over 7 years experience as a pressman. They shared a dream that together they would start a family printing business that would be one of the finest in the industry. With that thought in mind, they packed up their families and moved to Calgary, a city of endless possibilities where they could establish a quality printing company that could grow within this prosperous environment. <<
A Reputable Name
In the 1950's, Calgary was in the midst of an oil boom and the need for skilled craftsmen in the printing industry was evident. Together, Ron Sr. and Ron Jr. purchased a small printing company with the reputable name Oil City Press Ltd. and moved it to 321 - 11th Avenue S.E. With the help of their wives, Kathie and Linda, the business began to grow. <<
The Next Generation
In 1973, Ron Jr.'s son Doug began working with Oil City Press Ltd., and the following year a second son, Don, joined the company. With the sudden death of Ron Sr. in 1975, Ron Jr. became president, and in 1982, his third son, David, came on board to lend his talents to the ever-expanding business. <<
Continuing Growth
By the spring of 1985, Oil City Press Ltd. had outgrown its downtown location where staff had been working under crowded conditions for some time. April of 1985 saw the purchase of a new building, and on June 10th, 1985, the company was moved to its present location at 7260 - 11th Street S.E. Through the support of many satisfied customers, Oil City Press Ltd. continues to grow.
In 2006, we celebrated the installation of the fully-automated Heidelberg Suprasetter Platesetter, and the completion of our building expansion. In 2007, we introduced the Heidelberg Speedmaster CD74, a 6-colour press with coater. With a maximum sheet size of 23.82" x 29.13", the SM CD74 runs at a top speed of 18,000 sph on stocks up to 0.8mm thick.
This year, our prepress department upgrades its proofing devices. Our new HP Z6100 DesignJet Plotters feature higher resolution output and a broader colour range than their predecessors. Also new on the floor are the Xerox Docucolor 5000AP and Xerox Docucolor 240 printers, ideal for high-quality output on short-run projects.
